An Ideal Half - Last Week

Come on in for the last week of Camilla Galaz's first solo show.

A show that makes us look at the 'flying rats', that live beside us, in our city environment - despised, unwanted and certainly misunderstood - in a new light.

An Ideal Half runs til Saturday July 25th.

Collection

Sharon Margaret's Exhibition 'Collection' opened last Thursday eve to a massive audience (well for Hand Held). Sharon's work plays on ideas of craft and women's work by utilising tradition craft skills in it's making. The inclusion of hair in each of the works (sourced from the artist herself along with friend family) leads to intruiging work which far from disgusts the viewer - rather it draws in the viewers gaze and curiosity.

I need to tell you all about Sheridan Jone's wonderful show that opened last Thursday. Entitled Menagerie Sheridan's collection of bugs, birds and beasties evokes the museum collection - (without the ecological impact as Sheridan point's out...these creatures are 100% paper). The major piece in the exhibition is the 'Snowy Owl' you just need to come in and see in person... on show until May 28th.

Lost is Found

Paul Compton and Priscilla Ambrosini's beautiful new show opened at Hand Held on Thursday eve. Each piece in the exhibition was created from found materials, cut offs and lost objects: pieces of card, small broken tins and tiny bottles and discarded pieces of fabric and lace were the inspiration for this eclectic yet harmonious body of work.

As part of the exhibition Paul and Priscilla worked on a series of 'exquisite corpses' which meld the styles of both artists. A fascinating experiment where each artist tried to guess the other's intention with some mythical and magical results.

Tiny books reside inside miniature tins and a series of images are messages in minuscule bottles. Portraits are presented in found frames.

Both artists have created a series of zines for the exhibition which will be on sale in the gallery through out the exhibition and beyond.
