Lost is Found
Paul Compton and Priscilla Ambrosini's beautiful new show opened at Hand Held on Thursday eve. Each piece in the exhibition was created from found materials, cut offs and lost objects: pieces of card, small broken tins and tiny bottles and discarded pieces of fabric and lace were the inspiration for this eclectic yet harmonious body of work.
As part of the exhibition Paul and Priscilla worked on a series of 'exquisite corpses' which meld the styles of both artists. A fascinating experiment where each artist tried to guess the other's intention with some mythical and magical results.
Tiny books reside inside miniature tins and a series of images are messages in minuscule bottles. Portraits are presented in found frames.
Both artists have created a series of zines for the exhibition which will be on sale in the gallery through out the exhibition and beyond.
